A Veggie Garden bed grows your food, that you eat, therefore you must pay attention to what you put on and around your vegetable garden bed. It's also a very active part of your garden where you, kids and pets will hopefully spend many hours. Sharp edges, splinters and treated timber therefore is NOT an option for a safe, healthy vegetable garden bed.
eWood Vegetable garden beds, herb beds and sand boxes are made from eWood, a 100% recycled, 100% recyclable and 100% Australian Made wood alternative. It's 10 year warranty makes it perfect for outdoor use but it is a lot more than just strong and reliable.
eWood will not splinter, rust or crack. It will not harbour termites or insects and is naturally UV stabilised. It is an inert material that will not leach harmful chemicals like treated CCA wood.
eWood is simply perfect for outdoor family areas where you are growing your own vegetables.
Last weekend I started some seedlings in my soilblockers so they should be just about ready to plant out once I have finished assembling and had the organic compost delivered.
I also plan to build a compost bin from some eWood DIY Planks, I'm no carpenter so stay tuned if you want to see how a complete novice goes.
]]>When it comes to growing your own food in our gardens we become super sensitive to the products we use as their impact will affect our health directly. eWood Raised Garden Beds and eWood DIY Planks provide you with a green product that is green in ways we are not used to acknowledging.
eWood is made from 100% recycled plastic products. Products that would normally end up in landfill are saved and recycled. No trees are used in manufacturing of eWood. The manufacturing process itself, in Australia, is run on 100% green energy.

Apart from the fact that the whole system is based on imperial measurements, it's really easy to do and work with.
Luckily there is now an Australian manufacturer supplying the perfect sized raised garden beds to the Australia marketplace for square foot gardening. eWood.
1.2m x 1.2m Raised garden beds are the metric equivalent of 4ft x 4ft raised garden beds (give or take a tiny bit). one foot square translates to 300mm square. Use this conversion on all the square foot gardening instructions and you will be fine.
The square foot garden rule book states that you only need a height of 15cm to grow veggies, then if you need to grow root vegetables, just add a frame to that area and build the soil up to 30cm.(saving you the cost of filling a whole bed to that height).
eWood have recognised that a more popular garden bed height is 20cm high, so their base model (single tier) is 20cm high. If you want to plant root vegetables then you can then just buy a 300mm x 300mm box to raise the level of soil upwards.
]]>The 1.2m square raised garden bed kit & the 1.2m x 2.4m raised garden bed kit.
eWood have selected their 200mm x 25mm profile for these garden beds.
The decision to go for 1.2m square rather than 1m is in recognition of the growing following for the square foot gardening principles. 1.2m is basically 4 feet, which is the recommended size to create a 4 foot square garden. This space is then divided into 16 x 1ft squares. It's a great gardening system and if you are not familiar with it I recommend having a look at the creators website http://www.squarefootgardening.com.
The larger 1.2m x 2.4m rectangle size is a popular size also for larger Australian sized gardens. It's recommended to keep a clear walking space available around these larger raised garden beds to ensure you can easily access all areas without having to tread into your garden bed.
We are also making available 2.4m profiles direct to the public. These 2.4m planks are available in the 200mm x 25mm profile which was used to make the raised garden beds. It's also available in a sleeper size of 2.4m x 200mm x 50mm. These planks are available all across Australia in packs of 4. So if you have a DIY streak then these may well be the perfect solution for your next garden project.
]]>On first look I could see it was a solar powered pump, which is what we were looking for, but on further investigation I came across a concept that we will certainly integrate into the eWood Raised Garden Bed Kits.
What I found was a combination of ideas that we are all familiar with:
A strong, durable, good looking product, eWood® is 100% Australian, 100% recycled and 100% recyclable.
eWood® is termite proof, UV Stabilised, no splinters, no sharp edges, no chemicals it won’t crack like concrete, rot and warp like timber or rust like steel.
Information on each choice can be hard to find.
Building a Raised garden bed for example raises some important questions of health. With treated timbers you must be sure those chemicals are not leaching to your soil and therefore into your food. Gardens are a place for kids and pets also so you don't want sharp edges and materials that can cause harm in and around your garden.
Aesthetically we want a product that is bold and strong in our gardens but not something that is overpowering as far as colour or shape is concerned. Neutral is good in a garden and is more likely to combine well with your existing colours of walls, eaves, doors and roof.
Budget is of course a real determining factor and along with value for money we demand something that is affordable yet long lasting. Unlike many other purchases when it comes to your garden you have to invest in something that is robust enough to last, especially in our harsh Australian environment.
An increasing number of us are also environmentally aware. Using a product that respects the earth is nice but not always practical. If you can then you will, if you cant then you can't right?
So, all that brings me to eWood.
eWood is also great to work with. Same set of tools as you need for wood but without the frailty and splintering. You can paint eWood any colour you like you can glue it too.
So all this sounds great and it ticks all the environmental boxes. What about cost? It sits nicely in between softwood and hardwood. On paper its better than hardwood but I understand if one wants a beautiful polished grain finish.
So thats why I chose eWood, it looked right, it was strong and it was Environmentally perfect for my raised garden beds.

This award came at the very start of our concept to create useful products from waste and served as a key indicator that we were heading in the right direction.
Many years later we are extremely proud to be marketing and selling our range of eWood Gardens products.
